Thursday of the Second Week
Reflection
During this Lenten season, it may be hard at times to remember who always loves us.  As children, we give up something we love, candy or video games, to recall Jesus’ sacrifice in the desert and dying on the cross.  Growing up, we begin to realize a deeper meaning in this tradition and try to give up something more valuable.  In the story of Lazarus, we realize that sometimes this may not be easy.  We have to remember that sometimes the most valuable asset is our time.  If we give our time to help someone less fortunate, we may be able to give them the greatest gift of all, one that God never stops giving us — love.

Besides sacrificing, we must also put our trust in God.  This is a task that may seem simple, but in reality is hard.  By trusting in God, we will not fear what may happen to us because we are confident in God’s promise of everlasting life in heaven.  By becoming like the rich man, we separate ourselves from God’s love by forgetting other’s needs and focusing on our own selfishness.  But if we give of ourselves to help others, we draw closer to God by loving like Him. God gave of Himself for us, so we must give of ourselves.
Prayer
Lord God, help us to give of ourselves so that we may become closer to You and spread Your unconditional love for us.  Give us strength to listen to Your voice and courage to do Your will.  We ask this in Your name, Amen.

Sometimes it is easy to forget how precious time is and be selfish with it. Thanks for the reminder Maura!
